The winners of this year's Quality Assurance Program ranking competition “In Search of Excellence” were announced at the ConVault Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington in June. Of the 19 precasting plants currently manufacturing ConVault Protected Aboveground Storage Tanks, Rotondo Precast in Telford, PA was ranked highest for the second year in a row. AMCOR Precast in Ogden, Utah was close behind, winning second place for the second year in a row. AMCOR Pre-cast in Littleton, Colorado won third place this year. (Last year's third place winner was Utility Vault in Auburn, Washington.) Trophies are displayed with pride at each of the winners' offices to show their achievement and their dedication to excellence.

The ConVault technical committee initiated the ranking system and competition as part of the ongoing dedication to and emphasis on quality, as is expected from the leader of the protected aboveground storage tank industry. The ranking system requires the precasting plants to be inspected and graded in various production fields such as steel tank inspection, wrapping, reinforcing bar cage fabrication, concrete pouring, finishing, testing, training and certification of employees, quality control record keeping, and documentation. At the end of the inspection cycle, plants are ranked in accordance with their overall performance. The rigorous inspections are performed by personnel from the ConVault corporate office, and take up to three days per plant. During the first year of production, plants are inspected and graded, but are not eligible for ranking until the following round of inspections.

John Ekhtiar (VP Engineering) noted that the competition, which is only in it's third year, has visibly increased the quality control awareness at the individual plants. The friendly competition between the plants has created a desire to improve each plant's standing. One of the places this is evident is in the certification of ConVault production personnel. The over-whelming majority of plants have ConVault certified personnel who are allowed to work on ConVault production. Since inception of the certification program, 288 individuals have been certified and have received the ConVault certificate of achievement.
